SOL & CSOL changes 1 July 2016

18 May 2016

The following changes have been made to the Australian occupations list – Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL)  - to take effect from 1st July 2016.

After extensively cross-referencing the old occupations lists against the new legislative instrument that has effected changes to the Australian occupations lists, we have noted the following changes.

The following occupations have been promoted to the SOL:

251912 Orthotist or Prosthetist
25 2711 Audiologists

The following occupations have been removed from the SOL and demoted to the CSOL:

233611 Mining Engineers (excluding Petroleum)
233612 Petroleum Engineers
234912 Metallurgists
251311 Environmental Health Officers
251312 Occupational Health & Safety Advisers
411211 Dental Hygienists
411212 Dental Prosthetists
411213 Dental Technicians
411213 Dental Therapists

These changes relate to the following visa subclasses and for invitations issued on or after 1 July 2016:

Subclass 186
Subclass 189
Subclass 190
Subclass 402
Subclass 457
Subclass 485
Subclass 489

There has been much talk on forums, and so forth, about the list being longer, including accountants and ICT specialisations being “taken off the list”. This short list of changes is therefore not that dramatic. Although the effective date is 1 July 2016 there is little hope of beating the deadline unless an applicant already has a skill assessment, meets the points test pass mark, can lodge an Expression of Interest – and receive an Invitation to Apply, before the deadline.
